From where I stand on top of the mountain, Fatehgarh Palace Resort, I see Udaipur; the city of lakes. I admire what I see; The City Palace, one of the oldest historical Palaces within this heritage city. The scenic city is full of lakes and the crystal clear water of Pichola lake seems to wrap the city and win my heart in every way.

Located in Rajasthan, India, Udaipur lies in the southern region, close to the Gujarat border. Cities like Jodhpur, Chittorgarh, Kota, Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Indore lie in it’s driving range.

As I voyaged across Udaipur I stopped by at yet another lake called Fateh Sagar Lake, a perfect setting for a de-stressing morning, beautiful sunrises and prepossessing sunsets. During sunrise, a wind of positivity caressed my face just as the beauty of the sun reflected itself on the water during sunset just before I left.  Lake Pichola is surrounded by the City Palace and Jag Mandir has been built on an island in the Lake. Astounding  boat rides take me to Jag Mandir and I didn’t want to stop there. I continue taking a  pleasant ride under the white clouds surrounded by the Venice of the South. For children who are not interested in historical setups, the water activities and the Shilpgram Mela give them a perfect blend of fun-filled rides, games, traditional shopping, a solar observatory and a Rajasthani vintage car museum. For pilgrims, the temple of Jag Mandir on Lake Pichola, the Shrinathji Temple on the outskirts, the Jagdish Temple and the Ranakpur Temple are suggested. My favourite cultural attraction was the Puppet Folk Show of Ahad Sang and the Clock Tower along with the Chetak Circle fulfilled my shopping buds. Other major historical attractions of my keen interests were Sahelliyon Ki Badi (very famous for the fountains), Pratap Memorial (depicting various moments from the life of Maharana Pratap) and the Monsoon Palace (built chiefly to watch the monsoon clouds).

My favourite cuisine of Rajasthan is the Marwari Cuisine which includes Dal Bhat, Choorma, Moong Dal Halwa, Gatta Sabzi and the Ker Sangri. The Rajasthani Millet Thali was my most unforgettable experience of food in Rajasthan.

The time I visited Udaipur was during May which was the peak of summers in Udaipur, and was extremely hot and exhausting. July marks the the beginning of monsoon and lasts till September which should be the best time to visit Udaipur.

I really recommend Udaipur as it gives us a break from our daily lives and pushes us into a world of historical traditions. A phenomenal city full of lakes and it’s diversity of cultures. A fine mix of ethnicity and novelty while history travels in it’s veins.
